Welcome Galaxy & Puffin!!

posted in: Uncategorized

As some of you might know, over the years we have been pleased to rehome many Blue Cross horses and ponies. We feel it is important that we provide these horses with a loving home and give them a job, thus helping take the pressure of the charities. Many of you will have enjoyed learning to ride on some of them and they are firm favourites with our riders and staff! We often don’t know much about their background and generally they have only been handled at the centres before arriving to us. We carefully start introducing them to a saddle and life as a ridden pony.

Normally, from the time they arrive to when they gradually enter the school, it is about a year to 18 months. We like to feel they have a good, solid foundation with experienced riders and have enjoyed a varied, routine before beginning life as a school pony.

Galaxy (the bay) and Puffin (the chestnut) are our latest additions and are very cute, as you can see. Over the months, we hope to share their journey with you so you can see how they are getting on!

Here, they are in the first few days of arriving to us! Galaxy is a gentle little chap who loves cuddles and scratches!! He is like a little version of one of our bigger Blue Cross horses, Basil so he has already gained a nickname: Baby Basil or BB as I refer to him!!

Puffin is very pretty and knows it!!

Here, Puffin is being introduced to being lunged and the indoor arena which he was completely unphased about!

Galaxy looking all grown up with Jess on top. Poor Jess with her long legs always gets cramp trying to reach his sides so as soon as he is going along confidently on both reins then we will pop one of our advanced junior riders on him to ride him on. He loves to look at himself in the mirror, feathers flying and give a little whinny as he goes past!
