My horse is just a youngster, would the clinic be suitable for him?
Providing your horse is established in it’s basic groundwork and is fit enough to deal with a 40 minute lesson then it’s an ideal introduction to jumping. It would not be any good for a horse only a few weeks under saddle!
I’m only a novice rider and am not that confident over jumps. Will the jumps be big?
This clinic is not suitable for beginner riders who cannot sit in a balanced position. Ideally, you should have knowledge of the basic jumping position and ridden over small fences. Richard is brilliant at assessing the riders ability and confidence level and adjusting the difficulty of the exercises accordingly. The object of the lessons is that you go away confident and more informed than when you started the session!
I am an advanced rider who competes at affiliated horse trials. Would I gain anything from attending this clinic?
Absolutely, Richard trains and coaches riders up to international level. He is excellent at pinpointing and implementing subtle changes in your training regime and position enabling you to get the maximum out of your performance. Also, having competed himself at the major events he can give you a fantastic insight into what is required to succeed at the higher levels.
My horse is a good all rounder and we enjoy competing at riding club level. Would we benefit from a lesson?
Richard has a strong association with many riding clubs and is Chef d’Equipe to the Rural Riders Team. He has run clinics for numerous riding clubs over the years and is aware of what level riders need to attain for all the Championships.
What age does my child need to be to attend?
They can be any age providing they have a basic grounding in the jumping position and can ride over small fences. This is not suitable for beginners. Richard trains with many of the pony club branches across the UK and he is great at teaching the children how to attain a secure position and be accurate.
I wanted to join a group lesson but are unsure which level I should be in?
We ask all riders to give us details of both their riding ability and their horses experience. That way we can match up other similar combinations so that all riders feel comfortable in the group they are in and with what they are being asked to do. We do not have more than four riders in a group so Richard can give each person plenty of attention.
We are a group of friends who would like to have a session together but we are of slightly varying abilities. Is this possible?
This is not a problem as long as you realise that the lesson and exercises would have to be structured so that the combination with the least experience/ability were able to participate. This may mean that the difficulty level of the exercises is less than you would like.
Will the lessons be indoors or outside?
Depending on the weather and what Richard will be working on. The lessons will be either in the jumping paddock or in the indoor arena. It is hoped to run a cross country clinic in the future.
How early do I need to arrive before my lesson?
We ask that riders turn up at least 15 mins before their lesson so each lesson can start promptly. Failure to turn up on time may mean a shortened lesson.
How do I go about booking a place?
Please either contact the office on 01208 831817 or send in the booking form. Please make sure all the details are filled in. Places will only be confirmed once full payment has been received. We expect that places on the clinic will be oversubscribed and in order to avoid disappointment we ask you to send in your payment promptly as places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. We accept cash or cheque. Cheques should be made payable to R Waygood.
What if I need to cancel?
Cancellation policy is:
Between 4 – 6 weeks notice, 50% will be refunded unless we can fill the place in which case the full amount will be refunded.
Less than 4 weeks notice, no refund given unless the place can be filled or you can transfer your place to another rider.
Please understand that Richard does not charge travel expenses if we have a certain number of riders on the clinic. Late cancellations would mean that the other riders may have to ultimately pay more money for their lessons as it is too late to organise other riders.
Do you allow spectators?
We are more than happy if you wish to come and watch some lessons before taking the plunge and booking a session. Light refreshments will be available to purchase on the day.
